Our Story

How we built our way of skating

London Ballroom Skating didn’t come from formal training or a clear path. It came from paying attention, experimenting, and trusting what felt right on our skates.

We learned by watching, rewinding, and trying things out. We copied movements from videos, broke them apart, stitched them back together, and made up steps when nothing quite fit. There was no one to correct us, so the skating had to make sense in our bodies and on the ground beneath us.

Skating outdoors pushed that process further. Rougher surfaces demanded commitment. To keep momentum, we learned to step with intent and use a stronger push and pull between partners. The skating became faster, more physical, and more direct — not as polished, but alive.

Over time, structure became a tool rather than a rule. We use it when it gives clarity and connection, then step out of it when the music or moment asks for something freer. That back-and-forth — between form and freedom — is where our skating feels most honest.

We also pull from different dance influences — salsa, bachata, swing — not to decorate the style, but to keep it open. Those influences give us options, texture, and space to respond to the music in real time.

London Ballroom Skating is shared, not owned!
It grows every time someone skates with us, asks questions, or brings their own movement into the flow. Whether you’re just starting out or already exploring your own style, there’s room here to learn, contribute, and move together.

This story keeps unfolding every time people join us to skate, practise, and move together — in parks, on streets, and in shared spaces across London.
